George Batterson was born in 1906, which means he was too young for the first World War. In 1918, he would have only been 12; and he was too old for World War II. He would have been 36 years old, well past draft age in 1942. He served on the city council in New Milford from 1941 to 1947. Those were the war years when Teresa Martin was sending letters and packages, with the help of her junior high students, overseas to the men from New Milford serving in the Armed Forces. |
